Vegoose – Saturday
Saturday was a great day at Vegoose. The weather was perfect, the atmosphere was awesome and the music killed. Here’s a quick run down. I’ll go more indepth later. I started the day out with watching Praxis. They are they super-group comprised of Buckethead, Bill Lawswell and Primus’ drummer Brian. Buckethead is an interesting guy to watch. Everything about him survives because he is a fantastic guitar player. If he couldn’t play the guitar as well as he does, he would just be a freak show. The rest of the band was great. MMW with Maceo Parker killed. Maceo plays really nice melodies on top of the incredible MMW grooves. He was really getting down. Smiling, dancing and playing some funky, funky music. I think its a true testament to MMW to have someone of Maceo Parker get down to the sweet, sweet grooves. MMW is one of the hardest working bands today. The Yard Dogs Road Show was awesome. They put on a vaudville show complete with magic, birds, naked ladies, comedy, and great music. awesome. The Raconteurs were next. They fucking rock. Jack White doesn’t get a lot of respect from some of my friends, I don’t understand why. He’s put together a dynamite band. They’re fun to watch. The next two hours were split between the Keller Williams Incident and Damian Marley. The Keller Williams Incident was comprised of Keller Williams with String Cheese Incident as his backing band. They were fun. SCI can play pretty much any type of music that they want. Damian Marley was good. I felt weird about having him cover his fathers songs. It’s cool that he samples his dad’s stuff in his songs. But otherwise, I don’t know. Something didn’t seem right. Nonetheless, his band is solid. Accessible, interesting, and satisfying reggae. After that I swung by Jarassic 5 and the Black Crowes for a couple songs of each. They were good, I was tired. It was a long day of beer and sun.
I’m off to another day; Built to Spill, Phil and Trey, Galactic, Fiona Apple, The Roots, WSP…. it should be good.
